Mercer NZ Leadership Team

Martin Lewington

CEO, Mercer (N.Z.) Limited

Martin was appointed CEO of Mercer NZ in 2009 and is responsible for the firm’s Wealth, Health Benefits and Workforce Solutions businesses. Martin has also held senior roles with Mercer in investment management and investment consulting businesses since joining Mercer in 2006.

Martin has 30 years’ experience in corporate advisory consulting. Prior to Mercer, he worked for a boutique investment bank, PricewaterhouseCoopers and EY. His background covers a range of consulting projects in New Zealand and the United Kingdom including Treaty of Waitangi settlements, corporate finance projects, investment consulting, privatisations and financial planning. Martin is also a director of CentrePort Limited, a member of the Audit and Risk Committee and CentrePort Captive Insurance Limited.

Martin holds a Master of Science from the London School of Economics, a Bachelor of Business Studies from Massey University, is a CA member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Chartered Member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.

Sarah Whitelock

Consumer Wealth Leader, Mercer (N.Z.) Limited

 Sarah Whitelock is a Principal and the Leader of the Consumer Wealth business. She is responsible for overseeing the Mercer consumer products including the Mercer KiwiSaver scheme, Mercer Super Trust, and the Mercer FlexiSaver unit trust. Sarah's focus and passion is to ensure that all Kiwis have access to innovative solutions that enable them to make sound long-term investment decisions and to meet their investment goals.

Sarah joined Mercer in May 1998 and in addition to her current role has been involved in superannuation consulting to corporates and trustee bodies, the provision of secretarial services to superannuation boards, along with business and project management. Prior to joining Mercer Sarah gained experience at PriceWaterhouseCoopers and within Local Government in Audit and Financial Accounting roles.

Sarah has a Bachelor of Business Studies (Accounting) from Massey University and is a Member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Nicky Burns

Head of Administration Operations, Mercer (N.Z.) Limited

Nicky Burns is a Principal and Mercer New Zealand's Administration Operations Leader.

In her role, Nicky leads the service delivery to 30 corporate clients as well as Mercer's Master Trust and KiwiSaver products with combined membership of approximately 160,000. Nicky’s key focus is driving operational service excellence and ensuring our customers and clients are at the heart of everything we do.

Nicky has been part of the Mercer team for the last 22 years after initially joining the firm as a Fund Accountant, and has over 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry.

Padraig Brown

Chief Investment Officer, Mercer (N.Z.) Limited

Padraig (Paddy) Brown is the CIO of Mercer New Zealand. Prior to his current role, Paddy was Head of Real Estate for Mercer in Australia and New Zealand, managing a $3B+ unlisted real estate portfolio which significantly outperformed MSCI and APRA benchmarks. Paddy has advised some of the world’s largest institutional investors on Real Asset allocations

Prior to joining Mercer in September 2011, Paddy gained 14 years of global investment and strategy experience spanning real estate, private equity and infrastructure. Paddy was global real estate strategist for BlackRock where he advised on global investments utilising equity, debt and synthetic exposure and head of global capital markets research for JLL.

Paddy holds a Master of Science from the London School of Economics, a Bachelor of Management Studies from Waikato University, and he is a holder of the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.
